Call to inform me that my enail address had been selected from a list of uk landlines to recieve a £99 free holiday pass.  Refused to give any more information, tried to confirm my address again and again, then when I demanded to know what the call was about and what they actually wanted the guy on the end of the phone hung up.

Speaker sounded Indian.  091148 is the number when dialling 1471.

had same phonecall oh answered it i did tell him to put it down but it just went along with it,

Had a call from this Number said i had won a dvd.

What a lot of tosh! I PUT THE PHONE DOWN, hehe

Yep, another Bangalore Blagger on the other end of an automated dialler. Starts silent and then you get this idiocy. Christ, as if spam over eMail wasn't bad enough, now the POTS is becoming unusable too. All we need are these half-wits taking over the mail service and ALL out communications are going to become useless, frustrating time-sinks.

Missed call today dialed 1471 and it was 091 148. From these comments I am glad I missed it. How do they get our numbers????????

i'm quite worried now though as they also knew my email address but my house name was wrong but i correctly spelled it out for the guy on the phone
i hope nothing bad will happen now
he asked my age but as i'm only 17 (which makes me more worried as to how he knows my email address because i'm not in the phonebook under my name as i live with my mum) he told me he'd ring back later when an adult was present
i checked this number out on another site too and they said to keep an eye on my bank account and things just to be safe

Yeah, we just got a phonecall from this number, but we didnt get to the phone in time, so the answer machine took over. The man on the other end left a message saying 'helloooooo?? hellooooo?' he literally said it like that.
It was weird tho, because it was only a 6 digit number, in britain, its not usually like that when you press 1471...

Yes... I have been receiving silent calls for the past couple of days - 1471 has previously said that the number is "unavailable" but, today, 1471 revealed that the caller was 091148.

Hearing that some of you have found that this caller knows other details about you is worrying to say the least!   :-(

I've several calls from this number, fortunately by the time I've picked up they've hung up.  It really annoys me getting these type of calls because I've registered with the telephone preferance thingy....  My usual attitude now is as soon a someone start some sales speil.....hang up.

The caller told me he was from UK survey and not trying to sell anything. I told him I did not have time to talk to him and he wanted to know when I would.
I finished the call and will not be answering when the phone display shows 091148.

had a call from this number today, told that I had been selected to receive a £99 holiday voucher.  I was asked to confirm my name and postal address, when I questioned this and said that I wasnt interested I was told to 'Get Lost' and the MAN with an 'Indian accent' hung up! How he got the number is beyond me as we are ex directory and the fact he used my maiden name was even more bizarre - I have been married two years!!!

missed the call. 1471 showed number. no message on answerphone. my guess is the phone numbers, email addresses etc are being gathered by a web crawler and sold on. If you have to type your email into the web use AT instead of @ to fool the crawler.

I have had this call for months, silent for a minute i end up going hello, hello, hellooo then a man sounds indian noisy in the background starts with the you have won £99 pound holiday voucher just need to verify your email and address ect. I have hung up loads and still they call.  I think it started when i responded to one of those online complete a survey win a prize things which was not much of a survey more a list of services and products, do you want life insurance, loans, and the like. Tis very annoying!

I had this number to call me 091148 but nobody answers I have had this 3 times now with in the past month

I have been receiving a number unsolicitated calls from various organizations selling double glazing, insurance, etc, etc, so I have my answerphone on all the time.  Anybody calling me has to leave a message or there will be no return calls.  At 18:06 this evening I received a call from this number (got the number from 1471).  I had never received a call from a six figure number which had no area code as prefix before today.  Does anybody know how come just a universal number is allocated to an organization?

got 2 of these calls in the past 2 weeks - my wife just put the phone down. As the call does not originate within the UK I dont think TPS can do a thing about it.

The automatic diallers may be just dailing random UK numbers and sadly if you pick the phone up (you would wouldnt you, as we all do) they know it's an active number and someone is at the end of it.

A little like when you used to reply to spam emails to ask companies to stop sending them to you - just what they wanted, active email addresses that they sold on to others at a premiuum.

Also received a call from this number today but answer machine kicked.  Have also been receiving numerous calls displaying 'unknown international' on caller display which have been from Indian call centres saying I've won a dvd or some other tripe.  I usually hang up before they've had time to complete their first sentence and only answer because we have family abroad!

I am fed up with this number calling, they are quite then cut in with a barely understandable accent and will not take no.

Do as I do and have a little fun with them (if you have the time) and try to waste as much of their time as possible, while you are doing this you are 1. eating into their profits and the call is a cost to them, 2. while they are on the phone to you they are not pestering other people (potentially and older person or someone gullible enough to give them the information they want.

Perhaps everyone should get together and setup a premium rate number (ridiculous amounts per minute) and when these idiot call ask them to call us back on this number and let us profit from them!!  You could always give them a number of one of the many prank call numbers available on the net and either listen in or just imagine them trying to talk to a recording!!!

There is also another one going around from a 09 number selling debt consolidation, again the caller has an "Indian Accent".  TPS is useless in these cases as the originating call is outside the UK and their jurisdiction.
